Healthy Alexandrians

Our Mission statement is to improve the health and quality of life for Alexander County residents through partnerships focusing on education, public awareness, and community involvement.

Local Priority Issues:

Mental Health and Substance Abuse

Goals by 2014:

  • Decrease the suicide rate among Alexander County Residents.
  • Improve Access to Mental Health Care for Alexander County Residents.
  • Reduce the percentage of individuals aged 12 years and older reporting any illicit drug abuse in the past 30 days.
  • Reduce the percentage of alcohol related crashes and deaths in Alexander County.

Community Partners: Alexander County’s Sheriff’s Department, Taylorsville Police Department, Alexander County School System, Alexander County Probation Office, Healthy Alexandrians Taskforce, Substance Abuse Taskforce.


Healthy Families

Goals by 2014:

  • Reduce the rate of obesity and overweight children among preschool, elementary, and high school aged children.
  • Increase the number of mothers who breastfeed in Alexander County.

Community Partners: YMCA of Alexander County, Alexander County Smart Start, Alexander County Cooperative Extension.


Health Care Access

Goals by 2014:

  • Create an affordable access to care healthcare system in Alexander County.

Community Partners: Healthy Alexandrians Taskforce.
